Ali Arlani has been appointed as the new CEO and registrar of the Condominium Management Regulatory Authority of Ontario, effective Jan. 15.

In his new offices, Arlani is expected to rely upon the organization’s guidance to provide licensing services and education to members of the condo management sector. He is replacing Robin Dafoe, who successfully launched the organization as its interim executive director and registrar.

Arlani spent the past five years serving as assistant deputy attorney general at the Ministry of the Attorney General where he was responsible for the leadership of ten regulatory and advisory agencies, as well as three arbitration tribunal clusters.

Prior to the role, he worked for Environment and Land Tribunals Ontario as its chief executive officer. His duties included realigning the organization’s tribunals and implementing service standards.

Throughout his entire career, Arlani has received multiple leadership awards including a Service Excellence Award, the Ontario Building Official’s Award, and the Environmental Commissioner’s Award.

“With over 20 years of executive leadership in the public sector, Ali is known for his results-oriented work ethic and commitment to modernization, having provided oversight to three provincial tribunals,” says CMRAO board chair Aubrey LeBlanc in a statement. “We are confident that he will be a valuable leader to CMRAO.”

CMRAO is a newly established organization that is mandated by the Condominium Management Services Act, 2015 to protect tenants by imposing standards and mandatory licensing of condo managers and management firms. It began operating in November 2017.

Arlani’s appointment was announced by CMRAO Dec. 28.
