Construction has started on a pedestrian bridge near Fort York.
Once completed, the Garrison Crossing pedestrian and cycle bridge will create a connection between Trinity Bellwoods Park in the north and the Fort York grounds in the south.
The installation of the stainless steel bridge, the first of its kind in Canada, is being led by CreateTO on behalf of the City of Toronto’s Waterfront Secretariat.
Garrison Crossing will comprise two bridge spans, which will be lifted into place by a 600-tonne crawler crane. During the lifting of the first bridge connecting the South Stanley Park Extension to the Ordnance Triangle, a portion of the Kitchener rail corridor will be closed overnight to allow the crane to swing the 52-metre north bridge into place.
The installation of the second bridge span over the Lakeshore West rail corridor is anticipated in September.
